Start/Finish: HomeStead Studio Suites Hotel, 507
South First Street, corner of S. First St. and Barton Springs Rd. Phone (512) 476-1818. The self-service start box is located in the
lobby to the right of the front door, usually under the table with the guest
phone. Water and restroom facilities are available here. You may start anytime between sunrise and three hours before
sunset any day of the year. Finish by
dark. ***Visitors who need accommodation while in Austin might consider
staying at The Homestead Suites. They are centrally located, within
walking distance of numerous dining opportunities, and have been most gracious
as a starting point for our walks.***
Awards: Only “B” awards are available. The choices of “B” awards available are
shown inside the front of the sign-in logbook.
You may also do the events for credit only or for no credit.
Historic Capitol Walk, Y0068: A downtown walk
including the State Capitol Complex (going through the Capitol Building when
open), the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum, the University of Texas as
Austin campus, and several historical buildings in downtown Austin.
This is an 11K route. Rated
1+ due to small hills and stairs.
Wheelchairs will have to go several blocks out of the way to bypass
stairs at LBJ Library.

Lady Bird Lake Walk, Y0069: Follow the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail along the banks of scenic downtown Lady Bird Lake. Lady Bird Lake is part of the Colorado River (No not the one in Arizona, this is Texas’ own Colorado River.), after which the club is named. The walk visits the famous Barton Springs Pool and the new Butler Park with its fantastic views of downtown Austin. This is a 10K/11K route. Near the end you have the choice of finishing the 10K route or taking an alternative route to the finish for a total of 11K. Rated 1, suitable for strollers. Special Classifications: Artistic Heritage, Hooray for Hollywood, WPA Works Projects Administration.
Fairview
Park Walk, Y1672: This 10K walk is rated
2 due to steep hills. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcomed but may have
difficulty with hills. Central to this walk are neighborhoods dating back
to the 1880's. You will pass a unique blend of elegant Victorian mansions,
beautifully restored cottages, quaint bungalows and recently built homes of
striking design. The walk finishes with a walk up South Congress passing
an interesting array of restaurants, retail shops and art galleries. This
area is an Austin original.

Bouldin Creek Walk, Y2029: This 10K walk is rated 2 and winds through the Bouldin Creek neighborhood. This area was developed at the turn of the 19th Century and several historic homes dating to that era still stand. The walk route traverses Bouldin’s original property, along sidewalks, greenbelt trails with shallow creek crossings, and some residential city streets. Today gentrification melds new homes showcasing modern architecture and landscaping with historic African American churches, pocket parks, and a large greenbelt with an eclectic mix of folks from old hippies to young techies. The walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.

to Start/Finish:
From the
north on IH-35, take the Riverside Dr. exit, which is also just
before Lady Bird Lake. Take the frontage
road bridge across Lady Bird Lake and prepare to merge right into Riverside Dr.
after crossing Lady Bird Lake. Follow Riverside Dr. for about ½ mile
to Congress Ave. Cross Congress Ave.
and get into the left turn lane for Barton Springs Rd., which is the next
traffic light. Left onto Barton Springs
Rd. and get into left lane for South First St., which is the next traffic
light. Left onto South First St. The very first driveway on your left on
South First St. is the entrance to HomeStead Studio Suites Hotel. There is
a RESTROOM here before you begin your walk.
