Start/Finish:  Georgetown History and Visitors Center at 101 West 7th Street, on the square of Georgetown.  The Visitors Bureau is open 9-5 Monday through Saturday year round.  It may be open Sundays and holidays with volunteer staff only, so call ahead to check at 512-863-5598.  On weekends and holidays it is advisable to stamp your books when registering since the volunteer staff have been known to close up early.  Please do not start your walk later than three (3) hours before sundown.

 

Awards:  The “A” award is an enameled pin.  It features a red poppy, which commemorates the fact that Georgetown is the red poppy capital of Texas.

 

Historical Walk Y1037:  There are 2 10K trails available.  Both are rated 1 and are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.  Trail 1 is the original, which passes through the historical town square, "Blue Hole" and San Gabriel Parks, historic Southwestern University and by other historic and picturesque homes and buildings.  Trail 2 leaves downtown and passes into San Gabriel Park via the North San Gabriel River.  It loops through the park recreational facilities, and then returns to downtown via the South San Gabriel River, the Blue Hole Park, and Scenic Dr.  Pets are welcome except inside buildings.

 

Directions:  Georgetown is about 45 minutes north of Austin on I-35.  From the south on I-35 take exit 261, University Drive.  Go right (east) on University Drive to Austin Ave.  Turn left onto Austin Ave. and go to 7th Street.  The Visitors Center is at 101 West 7th Street.  From the north on I-35 take exit 262, Williams Dr.  Go left (east) on Williams Dr. to Austin Ave (McDonald’s at the corner).  Turn right onto Austin Ave. and go to 7th Street.
